Unit 1 "Forging America's Literary Tradition: 1620-1849"

 

Lesson 1 "Historical Background and The History of Plymouth Plantation by William Bradford"

Spend a few minutes going through the Intro to the book Pages x - xix. (You will not be quizzed on this but the information is valuable to you in learning how to approach literature)

On Page 1 Read the short introduction to Unit 1: 1620-1849

On Page 2-3 Look at the time line at the bottom then read the Historical Backgound to Unit 1: 1620-1849

On Page read Page 4, Read the Objectives for the first selection in the margin of Page 4.

On Page 5 Read and learn the definitions in the white box in the margin.

Read Pages 4-5 that introduce the first selection.

Scan Pages 6-7; focus on the tan boxes, which contain the key vocabulary terms in black bold type, learn the meanings of the words.

Scan Page 6-7 for the white rectangular boxes in the margin that contain thoughts about the selection.

Read Through Pages 6-7. (take notes of important ideas)
