Chapter 1-2 Transition

Materials:

• Computer Internet access for at least half of the period.)
• Worksheet Maze if needed

Objective:

• Students that are missing quizzes, investigations, or tests will get them made up.
• Students will reveiw Chapter 1 vocabulary terms, objectives, and theories.
• Students will be introduced to Chapter 2 vocabulary and theories.

Students will spend some time solving puzzels and playing games having to do with classification or characteristics of living things. See the following:

Teacher will direct the students to the last address above. Students will look ahead in the book and create one puzzle for the coming chapter using the site http://puzzlemaker.com/

The student will then save the puzzle and e-mail it to the instructor. The student with the best puzzle will get 20 challenge points for his/her team and the puzzle will be used after the chapter 2 test.

The teacher will take a student volunteer and have them come to the front of the room. The other students will then describe what characteristics of the person make them a living organism. (Teachers may use themselves)

Guided Practice:

• Students will learn how to check their own Quia grades and set up an e-mail client during class time.
• Students will try a technique for future use of the e-mail system.
• Students will learn different searching techniques
• Students will log onto e-mail system. They will type in My address, jmarley@yksd.com I will pose a question to the students and they will respond in the subject line and send the e-mail. We will see who's gets here first.
• Various prizes will be awarded.

Duration:

30 minutes + 10-15 for Independent Practice (Could be longer if taken for homework).
