Anticipatory Set:
The teacher will lead a discussion of how the microscope has helped science learn much more about the human body. During the discussion, students will discuss cells, bacteria, organelles, tissues, organs, the parts of the cell, the difference between plant and animal cells, the nutrients need for cells, and the basic life activities of living organisms. (Use the pictures from this chapter if you wish)
Teacher Input: The teacher will reveiw each of the Chapter one summary facts. You may choose to read the summary statements and then on some insert words that make it false then have the students guess whether it is true or false.
Teacher Modeling:
The teacher will take a student volunteer and have them come to the front of the room. The other students will then describe what characteristics of the person make them a living organism. (Teachers may use themselves)
Check for Understanding:
Students will complete the Vocabulary Reveiw worksheet.
Guided Practice:
Students will work together with the teacher on completing the Master Test.
Closure:
Students will spend some time reveiwing the Science Words from the chapter on P 21.
Independent Practice:
Students will take the Test on Chapter one during the next class period.
Duration:
30 minutes + 10-15 for Independent Practice (Could be longer if taken for homework).
