Chapter 4 Review

Whole Chapter review: Students will review the classification (evolution) tree. Or use the diagram on P67. Students and teacher will discuss how plants are divided first on vascular and non-vascular. Show student pictures of each type. Then the non-vascular plants are broken up into three differnet groups, Liverworts, Hornwarts, and Mosses. The vascular plants are divided into two groups. the seed plants and the seedless plants. Show pictures of both. The seedless vascuar plants are mainly ferns. The seeded vascular plants are broken down again into two groups. Angiosperms and gymnosperms. The Angiosperms are flowering plants and they produce a seed with a food supply and protection. The gymnosperms do not flower and produce a seed with little or no protection and no food supply. Show pictures of both.
Lesson 1 review: review with the students the advantages and disadvantages of being vascular and non-vascular. Show a picture of a vascular plant and a non vascular plant. Then while showing both in this picture have the students identify which plant the given advantage is for:
Lesson 2 review: Seed plants are broken down into two groups. Show a picture of each and have the students name the group. (Angiosperms, Gymnosperms) Angiosperms are broken down into two groups, dicots and monocots. Show the diagram of the monocot verses the dicot. Then read the following statements and have the students say whether it is a monocot or a dicot:
1. Two cotyledons
2. Netlike leaf veins
3. One cotyledon
4. Parallel leaf veins
5. Vascular bundles not in rings
6. Vascular bundles in rings
7. Fibrous roots
8. Flower parts in multiples of 3
9. A taproot (usually)
10. Flower parts in multiples of 4 or 5
Lesson 3 review: Seedless plants. There are two types of seedless plants we covered, ferns and mosses. What are the characteristics of a fern? What are the characteristics of a moss. What do we get from these types of plants? Show the diagram of a fern and list the different parts.
Full Chapter review: End of class Day 1 and before day 2 Students should work on the vocabulary review sheet. If you like you can have your students work on this practice test for chapter 4.
(Day 2) Full Chapter Game review: Students will play connect 4. The game board will have a total of 64 squares. Each time a site gets the right answer on a question the students will get to create an icon in their square.
Closure:
Independent Practice: Students will work on make-up tests and quizzes. Thursday is the last day to complete things for the first quarter.

30 minutes + 10-15 for Independent Practice (Could be longer if taken for homework).
