Course Introduction
Objective:
Students will reveiw the technology used, procedures, structure, priorities, and learning strategies used by YKSD biology.
Students will introduce themselves to the rest of their classmates.
Anticipatory Set: One at a time site mics will be unmuted. Students at that site will introduce themselves in English or Athabaskan and then answer a question. The Question: "What is the best thing about living in ___________?
Teacher Input: Teachers will introduce themselves and answer the question, "What do you like most about teaching?"
Teacher Modeling: Teacher will go through the website and introduce YKSD Biology to the students. They will explain how and why it was set up. The teacher will show the students an example of how the quizes are set up and take a sample quiz. Use the username: "biologystaff"; password: "admin". Teacher will introduce the syllabus and its location. Teacher will introduce the reward for bonus questions, and extra assignments not put in the grade book. (All answers to final test will be given to the site that comes up with the most points earned each quarter)
Guided Practice: Students will be guided through taking a quiz with the fake username: (Students will not be given the name it will be demonstrated by the teacher and then the score will be analyzed.
Closure: The quiz results will be printed and used for further reference.
Independent Practice: Students will spend 10-15 minutes on the quia web site (http://www.quia.com) and develop a list of their five favorite activities. Under the activities: Here is the top 50 (http://www.quia.com/dir/index_top50.html) There is no need to log in yet because usernames and passwords have not been set-up.

30 minutes + (10 - 15 minutes finding out as much information as they can about thier instructor) Students must list 10 facts about Mr. Marley. They can go to http://yksd.com/DistanceEdCourses/YKSDbiology/generalinfo/JMarley.html for help.

Make sure all students have a separate log on and that each computer has Microsoft Entourage.
