All About the Internet Introduction

Materials:

• YKSD District Policies on Network and Internet use.(In Principal's procedures manual or contact me)
• Parent/Student permission slips on Internet/Network use.
• Diagram of the Internet
• PowerPoint presentation on YKSD Internet Usage Policies

Objective:

• Students will learn YKSD Internet Use Policies.
• Students will develop an appriciation and understanding of the Internet.
• Students will understand the dangers of the Internet.

Anticipatory Set:

Students will discuss a cartoon showing a man with a ladder walking into a computer screen.

• Basic concept, the Internet is a gateway to the world.

Teacher Input:

Teacher introduce the 10 pages of material from the YKSD Board Policy manual concerning network and Internet use. (Show it to students do not go through it word for word. Make it available to students and parents.)

Teacher Modeling / Guided Practice:

Teacher will go through the powerpoint presentation on Internet Use Policies.

Check for Understanding:

Students will take a quiz on the Internet Use Policy. They must pass with 100%.

Independent Practice:

Students will explain policies to their parents and have their parents sign the Internet use agreement.

Duration:

30 minutes + 10-15 for Independent Practice (Could be longer if taken for homework).
