Chapter 10 Introduction

Objective:
Anticipatory Set: After going through the Chapter 9 test students will be shown this picture of a basket of apples. It is also on page 240 of the textbook. Pose the question, "What do apples have to do with staying healthy?" Take an answer from each site. Make a brainstorming diagram on a piece of paper and label the center circle "good health" have the students list ways to maintain good health. Connect those with the main circle. Relate the items mentioned with good health. What they have in common.
Teacher Input: Discuss with the students the chapter layout using the organize your thoughts on Page 241. Then, go through the goals for leaning also on Page 241.
Independent Practice: Students will get a glimpse of the vocabulary of chapter 10 by completing a word search puzzle. Then, Students will take a look at health from a community prospective. Each community has different programs to promote good health. Students will use the worksheet, "Opportunities to Build Healthy Habits" to determine what programs they have in their community. Students should work together on this exercise and they will get a much more complete list.
Duration:
15 minutes for test reveiw, 15 minutes for Chapter 10 introduction + 20-25 for Independent Practice (Could be longer if taken for homework).
