Chapter 3 Lesson 3 "The Moon's Movement in Space"

Anticipatory Set:*

Tell the students that at the end of the lesson they will know the answers to these questions some of them may already know an answer or two. Have them take out a blank sheet of paper and prove it! Ask these questions and type them in front of the students. Give the students 5 minutest to write out or draw an explanation of one of the questions. Here they are:

Does the moon rotate and if so how?

What causes the phases of the moon?

How does an eclipse occur?

How does the moon help cause tides?

During the course of the lessons the students will get a chance to answer one of the questions to all the other students.

 

Teacher Input:*

Ask the first question, Does the moon rotate and if so how? Have a student give the explanation. Then use these pictures to explain in as a teacher.

Ask the third question, How does an eclipse occur? Have a student give the explanation. Then use these pictures to explain it as a teacher

Ask the fourth question, How does the moon help cause tides? have a student give the explanation. Then use these pictures to explain it as a teacher.

Guided Practice:* Teacher and students will answer the questions on page 69 at the end of the section.

Independent Practice:* Students will read pages 65-68. Students will complete the worksheet, "The Moon's Movement in Space" and for Extra Credit students can complete the Lab, "Modeling the Orbit of the Moon."

Check for Understanding:* Students will take the on-line quiz over Chapter 3, Lesson 3, "The Moon's Movement in Space"

 

Duration:

30 minutes + 10-15 for Independent Practice (Could be longer if taken for homework).
