Course Introduction

Objective:

Students will reveiw the technology used, procedures, structure, priorities, and learning strategies used by YKSD Earth Science.

Students will introduce themselves to the rest of their classmates.

 

Anticipatory Set: One at a time site mics will be unmuted. Students at that site will introduce themselves in English or Athabaskan and then answer a question. The Question: "What is the best thing about living in ___(Hughes)________?

Teacher Input: Teachers will introduce themselves and answer the question, "What do you like most about teaching?"

Teacher Modeling: Teacher will go through the website and introduce YKSD Earth Science to the students. They will explain how and why it was set up. Teacher will introduce the syllabus and its location. Syllabus

Guided Practice: The teacher will show the students an example of how the quizes are set up and take a sample quiz with students help. Use the username: "earthsciencestaff"; password: "admin".

Closure: Students will be introduced to Mr. Marley. .

Independent Practice: Students will list 10 facts about Mr. Marley. They can go to http://yksd.com/distanceedcourses/Instructors/JMarley.html for help. Students will spend 10-15 minutes on the quia web site (http://www.quia.com) and develop a list of their five favorite activities. Under the activities: Here is the top 50 (http://www.quia.com/shared/sci/) There is no need to log in but usernames have been set up and will be (studentfirstnamelastname) and everyone's password is (moose) to start. Students may change it if they wish.

30 minutes + (10 - 15 minutes finding out as much information as they can about thier instructor)

Study and become familiar with Internet searching and Microsoft Entourage for e-mail.

Make sure all students have a separate log on and that each computer has Microsoft Entourage.
