Chapter 12 Introduction, "Weathering and Erosion"

Materials:

• Worksheet, "The Results of Weathering and Erosion"

Objective:

• Students will be introduced to weathering and define what weathering is.
• Students will identify what caused different types of weathering as chemical or Mechanical and then as the type of erosion, water, Glaciers, wind, gravity.

Anticipatory Set:* Show the introductory picture of weathering and ask how it is related to "Weathering and Erosion" Go through the goals for the chapter and then the Organize Your thoughts diagram.

Teacher Input:* See what the students know about weathering by giving them a pretest. Show seveal pictures of weathering and ask: " What type of weathering is it? (Chemical or Mechanical) What then caused the erosion in the picture, (Water, Glaciers, Wind, Gravity) Students will use this table for help:

Guided Practice:* Students will complete the worksheet: "The Resultds of Weathering and Erosion with teachers and other students"

Duration:

30 minutes + 10-15 for Independent Practice (Could be longer if taken for homework).
