Vocabulary Terms

Cardiovascular disease - a disease of the heart and blood vessels.

Hypertension - high blood pressure.

Arteriosclerosis - a chronic disease in which the walls of the arteries thicken.

Atherosclerosis - a narrowing of the arteries due to a buildup of fat.

Heart attack - a condition in which the blood supply to the heart is greatly reduced or stopped.

Stroke - a condition in which the blood supply to a person's brain is suddenly blocked.

Risk factor - a trait or habit that increases a person's chances of having or getting a disease.

Malignant tumor - a mass of cells that are harmful

Metastasize - spread cancer to distant tissues.

Chemotherapy - a cancer treatment that uses drugs to kill cancer cells.

Radiation - a type of treatment that uses energy waves to destroy cancer cells.
