Farmer's almanac - an annual calendar of days, weeks, and months with weather predictions and astronomical facts.

General information almanac - An almanac that contains fact and figures about a variety of subjects from the previous year and from the past.

Electronic almanac - Almanac that is on a CD-ROM or at an Internet web site.

Vocabulary Terms

Atlas - a book of maps and geographical facts.

Symbol - a sign or mark that stands for something else

Scale - the relationship shown between distances on the map and actual distances.

Gazetteer - a dictionary of geographical place names.

Grid - a network of lines on a map that makes it possible to locate specific places.

Horizontal - Going across from side to side

Vertical - going up and down from top to bottom.

Grid map - a map with grid lines.

Interval - the space of time between events.

Digest - a magazine that contains summaries or condensed articles from other magazines.

condensed - a shorter version of an article but with the same main idea

publish - to print and distribute magazines, books, newspapers, or other reading materials

cycle - the period of time between events, such as the publishing of a magazine.

subscription - a regular order for a magazine, newspaper, or other publications
