Vocabulary Terms

expert - a person with training and knowledge about a specific subject.

credentials - proof that a person is an expert in a certain area of work.

occupation - the regular work or business a person does.

associate's degree - a degree from a two-year college or a community college

Bachelor's degree - a degree from a four-year college or university

Master's degree - an advanced degree, beyond a bachelor's degree, from a graduate school or university

Doctoral degree - the highest degree awarded by a university or professional school.

Vocabulary Terms

trade - an occupation that requires manual or mechanical skill.

apprentice - a worker being trained by an experienced and skilled person

journeyman - a worker who has completed an apprenticeship and passed a test

master's level - a worker who has more experience that a journeyman and has passed another test this worker has earned a master license.

Foreman - a supervisor or boss

contractor - a person who agrees to perform work or to provide supplies for a job.

independent contractors - people in business for themselves.

organization - a group of people united for a common cause

bureau - a specialized group or department that focuses on one area or one main topic.

consumer - someone who buys and uses goods and services

consumers union - a group that tests products and investigates businesses. The Consumers Union publishes the results of it tests in a magazine called Consumer Reports.
