Vocabulary Terms
Geometry - the study of points, lines, angles, surfaces, and solids.
Polygon - a closed, many-sided figure that is made up of line segments.
Parallel - lines that are always the same distance apart; parallel lines never meet.
Quadrilateral - a polygon with four sides.
Rectangle - a four-sided polygon with four right angles and the opposite sides equal.
Rhombus - a four-sided polygon with two pairs of parallel and equal sides.

Prism - a solid figure with two parallel bases that are polygons of the same shape and size.
Right prism - prism in which the base and the sides are at right angles.
Pyramid - a solid figure with a base that is a polygon and triangular sides.
Vertex - A common point opposite the base of a pyramid or cone.
Cylinder - a solid figure with two equal circular bases that are parallel.
Cone - a solid figure with a circular base connected to a vertex.
Sphere - a round solid figure in which all points on the surface are at an equal distance from the center.
