Vertical - Straight up and down

Horizontal - Left to right or parallel to the horizon.

Coordinate system - A way of using number lines to locate points on a plane or in space.

x-axis - the horizontal, or left-to-right, axis in a coordinate system.

y-axis - the vertical, or up-and-down, axis in a coordinate system.

Quadrant - On of four regions of a coordinate system bounded by the x-axis and y-axis.

Origin - The point at which the x-axis and y-axis intersect in the coordinate system.

Ordered pair - A set of two real numbers that locate a point in a plane.
