Detention - the act of holding someone against his or her will.

The Comprehension: Understanding Main Ideas

  1. The German army moved swiftly across a country and allowed little resistance.
  2. The war effort was helped by women joining the workforce, victory gardens, rationing, and collecting raw materials.

The german state wanted to take back the territory it had lost through the treaty. It took over Austria and Sudetenland. Hitler met with leaders of Great Britain, France, and Italy and promised not to take any more territory. When Germany invaded Poland, France and Great Britain declared war.
