buddha - a name meaning the "Enlightened One;" the name given to Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism.

enlightened - the state of knowing the truth

Desire - to wish for something; a wish for something.

Nirvana - a condition of complete emptiness in which a person's soul finds perfect peace.

Soul - a person's spirit.

Shinto - The Japanese religion that involves a love of nature and worship of spirits.

  3. The word Shinto means, "the way of the gods."

  1. India has given many gifts to world civilization. Among these are the following: Hinduism, Buddhism, knowledge about the size of the size of the moon and gravity, the number system based on 10, the numbers 1 through 9, the concept of zero, our decimal system, inoculation, types of surgery, hundreds of different medical tools, and the understanding of how to set broken bones and use plants for medicine.

  3. Both Japan and Europe based feudalism on land. Both had men in varied positions of power: King/shogun; vassal/daimyo; knight/samurai. But they differed in the European feudalism was a kind of legal agreement between the knight and the lord, whereas in Japan, the warriors felt that it was the right of the daimyo to rule. Also, the samurai would kill themselves if they lost honor. Knights in Europe would not do that.
