American Revolution - the American struggle against Great Britain for independence.
Complaint - a statement about something that tells why a person is unhappy.
Declaration of Independence - a document the American colonists signed in which they declared their freedom from Great Britain.
Revolutionary War - The war the American colonists fought with Great Britain

estates-general - the French governmental body made up of representatives from the three estates.
mob - a large group of people
bastille - a prison in Paris
French revolution - the war that the common people of France fought against the king, nobles, and one another to achieve freedom

emigre - a French noble who fled France during the French Revolution.
Jacobin - a radical leader during the French Revolution
moderate - one who has a slight opinion on an issue
radical - one who has a strong opinion on one side or another of an issue.
executive - having to do with the ranch of government that puts laws into action
Guillotine - the machine the French used to execute people by chopping off their head.
Legislature - the group of people in a government who make laws
Reign of Terror - the one-year period in French history when radical leaders put many people to death.
