This is a summer culture camp for students from the Yukon- Koyukuk School District. The camp was planned so children can live with their elders to study the language and learn how to live and make things in a traditional manner. They were taught how to make birchbark baskets, canoes, string out of willow and many other projects. They helped tan a moose hide, carve a paddle, and cook traditional food. This camp helped kids learn to survive in the wilderness by learning to read maps and use a GPS and range finding, identifying local plants and their used, boat use and safety.
Enaa Baasee' (thank you very much) to all the people who made this a very successful camp!!!
