• The only thing we love as much as our students (other than food) is our staff. They work hard to ensure young minds are energized every morning and afternoon to promote healthy learning and lifestyle.

Rebecca Linus is our head chef in Allakaket and has been with our district for over a decade. She is faithfully the first one at the school every morning, even at 35 below zero, and subsequently the first to freeze.

Thank you for your service, Rebecca! We are grateful for your dedication and persistence.

Louis is the man who prepares lunch for the biggest school in our district, which is no small feat. During the school closure (due to the pandemic) he and his coworker served over 5,000 meals in 8 weeks! Way to go, Louis!

Marie Dayton:

I am an Alaskan Native, born and raised in the village of Nulato which is in the Interior 350 miles west of Fairbanks. I have lived in Koyukuk most of my life. I worked as a teacher aide for 14 years before pursuing a degree in teaching. After two and half grueling years, summer and all, I graduated from the University of Alaska. I began teaching for Yukon-Koyukuk School District in Allakaket. I have taught students in Koyukuk, Nulato, Kaltag and Fairbanks, until I retired. I now work as the secretary in Ella B. Vernetti School, plus lunch cook.

I enjoy my days working on preparing food for the students.

(And we're so grateful to have her!)

A word from Rebecca:

My name is Rebecca Agnes, I was raised in Nulato. I was initially just going to cook for 1 year, but I realized I enjoy feeding young minds the important meal of the day... I've been cooking breakfast for Andrew K Demoski School going on four years now.

(She is good at what she does)

Meet Ev (Evelyn) and Ed Sarten!

The Sartens are doing a Farm to School program in Ruby (the only one in the district) and have been growing/teaching organics for many years. Ed is a nutritionist and runs the local farm, Ev prepares the meals for the students. What motivates them? They love the students!

"It's so important to feed them well. We need to educate them on making good food decisions and show them how to enjoy it." -Ev

(Thank you, Sartens!)
