Chane Beam is the Director of Teaching and Learning in the Yukon-Koyukuk School District (YKSD).
Chane began his career in 1988 as a Social Studies teacher at St. Petersburg High School in St. Petersburg, Florida. His duties at SPHS during his twenty years at the school included teaching US History, World History, Government, Law Studies, AP European History, and AP US History. Mr. Beam coached JV Football for two years, JV Basketball for eight years and was the head boys’ basketball coach for four years. Additionally, he was the Athletic Coordinator for five years.
Chane left his teaching job in 2008 to join PEAK Learning Systems as a consultant. That role allowed him to train and coach teachers in Idaho, North Carolina, Texas, Montana, Florida, Michigan, Nebraska and Alaska. He spoke at the National Middle School Association National Conference three times and the National Association of Secondary School Principals Conference twice.
In 1987, Mr. Beam graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Education and earned his Masters' Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Alaska Anchorage. Chane was a National Board Certified Teacher from 2006-2016 with a focus on Social Studies/History for Adolescence and Young Adults.
As the Director of Teaching and Learning, Mr. Beam has been instrumental in the development of the district's strategic plan, the implementation of the 2012 Alaska state standards, the development and implementation of the teacher evaluation, and the implementation of Response To Intervention (RTI) on a system and classroom level. He has provided oversight of each school's STEPP school improvement plan and led the curriculum review for each content area. Finally, Chane develops and implements all instructional professional learning for YKSD.
